Pictured here is the famous Mazatlan Pulmonia. There are several ways to get around Mazatlan. You can take a regular taxi which is the most expensive way. You can use the city bus system which goes most everywhere and is very inexpensive (4.5 pesos for the old buses and 8 pesos for the new buses (45 or 80 cents American). The buses are a good way to get around but sometimes the drivers stop for you and sometimes they don't and the stops are not well marked. The other option is the Pulmonia. These are small open air vehcles made from old Volkswagon parts. When they first arrived here 36 years ago, jealous drivers of regular taxis warned their customers not to ride in the door-less, window-less vehicles because they would catch pneumonia. The name stuck. These are cheaper than regular taxies and are all over the place.
